Some Essential Tips for Medical Students

The students of MBBS have their own strategy of studying their lessons. But the following are some very useful tips that every students should follow:

• Do not cram: The lessons of MBBS are really tough and students need to memorize their lessons by heart. But still a medical student should not cram anything. They should understand the concepts and not memorize the lessons. Students should even try to understand the concept of their lessons and not just memorizing the subject. Whenever any topic is not understood, the student should ask his teacher to make the concept clear in the class.


• Avoid group study: There are some students who like to study in a group. But in fact in group study, students always used to interrupt each other’s study. They very often used to discuss about some unrelated questions or about the latest TV show. It is not very helpful. So it is better to avoid the group study in medical universities.


• Focus on studies: While studying student should turn off their Internet connection, shut down their computer, stop checking the e-mail or Whatsapp messages on their phone and should only concentrate on their studies. Writing things out can help a student to remember the concepts of medical studies.


• Collect the copies of previous year question papers: In the medical examination many questions are repeated. Sometimes same question are asked with a little changes of word, having the concept same. Students can learn and understand the pattern of the question by studying the previous year’s question papers. They can understand what type of questions may appear on their examination and can prepare accordingly. The students can have a copy service in their medical universities where they can pay some extra money to get the copies of previous year question papers.


• Never get the moral down: Students should not get their moral down even if they get poor marks on their examination. Rather they should study hard to do their best. Students should never get discouraged. If they put effort in their studies they will surely graduate and become a doctor.


• Learn what medicine is all about: Students should not stick only to the textbooks. Apart from text book, students should read journals, articles and medical blogs about topics that interest them. There is a big difference between book sense and common sense. A student requires both to become a successful doctor.


• Set aside a day for relaxing: All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. So student should take a day off in their busy schedule and should go for relaxation. Sometimes the students should relax, have party, go to the beach, play cards and should act like a general student. The student should make friends and have fun. Medical universities are neither a school nor a prison.


• Never forget your family. Students should talk to their family members over phone regularly. Sometimes students should write an e-mail and send pictures to their friends and families. The families of student may have sacrificed a lot for them and they may probably brag about the student to all their relatives and friends. So the student should also give their families some material to brag with. Without the support of the family, no MBBS student can ever become a successful doctor.
