MBBS in Ukraine | Odessa State Medical University

One of the most premier government medical universities in Ukraine is Odessa State Medical University. It is located in the city of Odessa and was established in 1900. It is a member of MEDINE (Medical Education IN Europe). The university started to medical education to the foreign students in English language in 1996.  Since then thousands of students from all over the world especially from India go to Ukraine for getting quality MBBSdegree. Today there are more than 6000 students in Odessa State Medical University and out of which 2500 students are from India. 

Odessa State Medical University has 55 departments and there are 38 advanced training programs in the university. The duration of MBBS course is 6 years and dentistry and pharmacy is 5 years. The medium of instruction for MBBS (General Medicine) is English and Russian and the medium of instruction for Dentistry and Pharmacy program is Russian.

The Faculty of General Medicine provides specialties in allergology, anesthesiology, cardiology, clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, dermatovenerology, emergency medicine, endocrinology, endoscopy, ENT, etc. The university also offers post graduate courses. The medium of instruction for the post graduate course is English and Russian.

The university has given birth of some eminent scientists and founders of various scientific medical schools. Among them some of the most remarkable eminent persons are Prof. Pidvysotsky V.V., Prof. Lisionkov M.K., Prof. Voronin V.V., Prof. Batuev M.O., Prof. Verigo B.F., Prof. Boggomolets O.O., Prof. Zabolotny D.K., Prof. Strajesko M.D. and Reznik B.Y. who have worked in this university.

Apart from that it is only university in Ukraine that has become a member of Medical Education IN Europe (MEDINE). The Thermal Network of MEDINE addresses all the issues related to educational, institutional and quality in European medical education within the frame work of European initiatives. Not only that, it has also became a member of European and International Association of Universities. European and International Association of Universities is the leader of reformation of medical education in Ukraine.

The university also gives equal importance for extra-curricular activities. It has built a Sports Complex on the territory of the campus where there are six sports halls for various games like wrestling, table tennis, athletics, aerobics, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, training room (gym). Students can participate in more than 16 kinds of sports but the most popular games in the university are athletics, basketball, handball, tennis, weight lifting, swimming, football, fencing, mini-football, judo, unarmed combat, chess, badminton and other.

The university also has center for art and it is called as “VITA”. Students who are interested in the creation art can participate in this centre. The most popular activities in this centre are ballet dancing, modern and folk-dancing.

The university also has separate hostel provisions for both boys and girls. The hostels of the university have all facilities like central A/C, beddings, shower, washroom, washbasin, reception, laundry, cleaning and washing personnel, reading rooms, etc. Hostels are surrounded by green belt with outdoor sport activities like basketball, volleyball, football, etc. Both boys and girls hostels are provided with full security.
