The
Union Health Minister is planning to make NEET mandatory for aspirants seeking MBBS admission in abroad from 2018
onwards. It was suggested by the Union Health Minister that candidates will not
be issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) for studying in foreign medical
college if they could not clear NEET exam. If the medical student fails to
receive NOC from MCI, they will not be eligible to seat for FMCG examination
that is mandatory to clear in order to practice in India.
The vice president of MCI, Dr. CV Bhirmanandham said that neither the candidates will be
allowed to seat in the screening test nor they will be registered by MCI as
doctors if the candidate fails to clear the NEET exam. This
decision is taken to make the entry level qualification for medical education
equal for all candidates. This decision will prevent the mediocre
medical aspirant from getting a medical degree from foreign medical colleges on
the basis of money or connections.
This decision is taken
because in the last five years the percentage of overseas MBBS candidates who could
clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is very less. This is because of the two reasons – either
the quality of medical education in foreign countries is not at par with the
Indian standard or the students are not competent enough to qualify for medical
education in India. In 2016 the Supreme Court has made it clear that in India,
every medical aspirant has to clear NEET before getting admission in both
government and private medical college in India. That means clearing NEET is
compulsory for all medical aspirants.
But in many foreign
countries entrance examination is not required for admission into MBBS. So
there was an opportunity for many candidates who could not qualify for NEET in
India to go to the foreign country for pursuing MBBS. Thus many incompetent
students have pursued MBBS in abroad but
could not qualify FMCG conducted by MCI and were not given registration for
practicing in India. MCI wants only competent students to join medical college
whether in Indian Medical College or Foreign Medical College. That is the
reason why MCI wanted to make NEET compulsory for every students seeking MBBSadmission in abroad.
It is the last opportunity
for the students to take admission for overseas
MBBS without any entrance test. Students should reserve their seat in
foreign medical college in 2017 without wasting any time before NEET become
compulsory for overseas medical admission.
